Destination Education, See The Possibilities!

   What is Destination Education?

Destination Education is a redemptive, developmentally sensitive, approach to Christian teaching that involves both knowledge acquisition and spiritual development.  This approach is designed to encourage confession of faith, expression of faith in daily living and continuing spiritual growth 

This growth is evidenced in whole life transformation, embracing knowledge of, commitment and service to Jesus Christ.

 The principles are not new, they are Biblical and encourage teachers of scripture to use not only the Bible as their primary source for teaching but also examine the scripture for relevant teaching methods and practices.

 Can anyone use these principles?

Anyone can and many do use them.  Good teaching certainly maintains certain core character tics regardless to the setting.  Many teachers however may use some of the principles but be unaware of others that will help make their teaching learning experiences in the church school classroom even more effective.  Destination Education is about helping teachers to find and use relevant best practice principles in their teaching.

 Most of the teachers in our church also teach in public/private schools.  They have professional training, can this benefit them?

These teachers have the benefit of professional training that many teachers of scripture lack and it is a blessing that they utilize their skill set in the church setting.  I suspect that many of these teachers also have a content area in which they have a strong knowledge base.  It is within that content area that they exercise their greatest expertise.  These teachers take time periodically to get more training and instruction in their given area.  They want to increase their knowledge base so as to have more to bring to their students. Continuing education is considered the norm in many other areas and must also become the norm for teachers in our churches.  We seek to provide a setting where all teachers, regardless of background may develop their ‘skill set for Christian teaching.
